After Your Visit

Aftercare Instructions

These instructions were designed with you in mind, so you are as comfortable as possible. Open the one that matches your last appointment.

Temporary Veneers (after your prep visit)
  • Temporary means TEMPORARY! These are supposed to come off, so you must be very careful with them.
  • DO NOT bite into anything with your front teeth. Cut your food into very small pieces and chew slowly and softly on the back teeth only.
  • Stay away from hard or sticky foods. Avoid biting into bagels, hard candy, popcorn, spareribs, apples, chewing gum, caramel, sandwiches, carrots, etc.
  • Foods that may be more comfortable to eat include smoothies, soups, yogurt, eggs, mashed potatoes, ice cream, and soft proteins such as salmon or fish.
  • It is normal to have tooth sensitivity to hot and cold liquids and air.
  • You can brush normally, including with an electric toothbrush.
  • You are NOT able to use dental floss with your temporaries because they are interconnected.
  • Rinse your mouth with warm salt water 3 to 4 times daily.

Important

  • It is considered normal to experience sensitivity on your teeth and gums while having temporaries. Because the temporaries are connected together, they can make the teeth feel achy.
  • Advil, Motrin, or Aleve can reduce the sensitivity.
  • If you break a temporary, please keep the broken piece (do not throw it away) and call our office.
  • Please do not eat or drink hot beverages until your anesthetic wears off completely.
Permanent Veneers (after placement)
  • Please refrain from biting into hard foods with your new teeth until your bite has been fully adjusted and feels comfortable. Your bite may not feel 100% because of the dental anesthetic. It will be further adjusted during your next visit.
  • It is considered normal to experience sensitivity on your teeth and gums immediately after receiving your permanent veneers, including to hot or cold liquids and foods. This comes from the bonding process and from cleaning excess bonding material from below the gum line. The amount and duration vary for each person depending on the treatment received. Sensitivity always improves over a relatively short period of time.
  • Advil, Motrin, or Aleve may help reduce sensitivity.
  • Please brush and floss very lightly for the next few days as your gums are healing. You may notice small white particles coming from between your teeth. This is excess bonding material, not your teeth chipping!
  • Rinse your mouth with warm salt water 3 to 4 times daily to help your gums heal. While healing, your gums may look mildly receded or show small micro spaces between the teeth. This is normal and resolves as the gums fully heal.
  • Your final appointment is critical to the overall success of your treatment. Dr. Marashi will perform artistic recontouring and characterization as needed to personalize your smile. Any additional adjustments in length, bite, phonetics, and polishing may also be done at this time.

Congratulations on your new smile!
