Gum Disease
Despite growing public concerns, gum disease (or periodontal disease as it is more appropriately termed) continues to be the most common cause of tooth loss in adults. In fact, almost 75% of adults in America have some form of gum disease and many don't even know it.

Early signs are red and/or inflamed gum tissues that bleed easily, called gingivitis. Unfortunately many people dismiss this condition and assume it will go away with better brushing. On the other hand, it is possible to have gum disease with absolutely no discernable symptoms. This is perhaps the most dangerous aspect of gum disease; it often goes unnoticed or untreated until very late in the disease process when the teeth have already been severely compromised.

The signs of advanced periodontal disease are more readily identifiable. These may include:

• Dark Red Gum Tissue
• Spontaneous Bleeding of the Gums
• Pain/Swelling in the Mouth
• Pus Around Teeth
• Spaces Growing Between Teeth
• Receding Gums
• Persistent Bad Breath
• Loose or Sore Teeth
• Change in Bite

Only your dentist or hygienist can determine if you have any signs of periodontal disease. If so, treatment may be advised. Advanced cases of periodontal disease may still require periodontal surgery. However, when identified in early to moderate stages, periodontal disease can often be treated with NO SURGERY. Thus our hygienists have been trained in the most advanced techniques of treating periodontal disease at this level including the use of a DENTAL LASER.

Laser Therapy
The advent of soft tissue dental lasers has enhanced the long-standing standard of care for treating periodontal disease. Lasers use concentrated light energy to destroy the bacterial pathogens responsible for periodontal diseases. Thus, after a thorough cleaning of diseased teeth and gums, the laser is used to reduce the level of bacterial infection present. It also simultaneously seals the nerve endings in the treated areas, which makes the healing period VIRTUALLY PAINLESS. All of this harmonizes to achieve the greatest healing possible with optimal patient comfort and without any surgical intervention.
